Vegan quickie!!!

Ugh! I've been busy, busy, busy with the kittens, work, crazy social life and trying to tie up all the loose ends in order to take off for the week to NorCal!!! I'm lucky if I have time for a full cup of coffee in the morn, let alone to pack a gourmet vegan lunch. Luckily, I just realized that Subway has vegan options listed on their company website...woot woot! I LOVE discovering quick and eay vegan options to get you through in a pinch :)

Veggie D'lite here I come!

HELP!!! Urgent!!!

The South LA Animal Shelter sadly REDLISTED 32 cats (most of whom are only KITTENS) today alone equalling 46 on the REDLIST as of today, JULY 21, 2009. According to the shelter supervisor they will euthanize 10 a day... (their 7 days on the REDLIST will expire TUESDAY, JULY 28th). I know this is extremely overwhelming, but maybe if we coordinate our efforts, we can save some of them... for example, some of these babies who have suffered in the shelter for over half their life now only to die there too...
Many thanks for all your help... if you can CROSSPOST, as always it is SO APPRECIATED!!!

If you could possibly help save any of these much deserving kitties and give them a second chance, please call or visit the South LA Animal Shelter at 3612 11th Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90018 off Crenshaw and Jefferson ASAP. You may call the shelter at 213/485-0117 or 213/485-0119 with any questions or to process these babies!!! Need help or worried that you can only provide a super temporary home? Message me!!!!

Check out the kitts that need help here!!!!

KITTENS!!!!

I am LOVING life with the kittens!!! It kills me that they were about to be put down!!! This morning I awoke to the bathroom sink turned on full blast and Rage Against the Machine blaring from my computer. Apparently Mas are as easy as they say, cause a kitten managed to open and operate my iTunes.

As promised, I've uploaded some pics of my cuties. Ugh, I am so in love with them I don't know how I will be able to give them up :(

This is the kitt formally known as Serena. The shelter told me that she was a little girl, but upon closer inspection I realized that this was not the case. Hence, Serena is now Ben:

Ben and O'Shea cuddling together on the rocking chair:

Sweet little 3 lbb O'Shea!!! This one is gonna be HUUUUGE! His legs are so long he more hops than walks...too cute:

Baby Ben caught on the rocking chair. He loves his belly rubbed:

If you are wondering why there are only pics of two cats, thats because baby Venus (if she turns out to actually be female) is a bit on the shy side. Cute as hell, but not the biggest fan of the humans...YET! Luckily, we have made a bit of progress and should have her camera ready soon :)

Flush with Kittens!!!

I am currently fostering three kittens....toooo cute!!!  I picked them up last Friday from the South Los Angeles Animal Shelter as they were deemed feral, unadoptable and due to be put be put down.  Ugh, I wish you could see how untrue that is!  They are sweet as pie!!!  I adore them!

The plan is to foster them and "socialize" them and then find them permanent loving homes :)

I'm going to sign off now as O'Shea, the biggest kitt, is hell bent on using my keyboard as a treadmill.  I'll post some pics after work!!!!

Wakey, wakey! Tofu and (soy) bacy!!!!

I was uploading from my camera and found a couple of shots of some of my fave dishes.  Yum!  You know somwthing is tasty when it compels you to snap a shot of it :)

Here's my versions of an egg sandwich:

It is basically tofu (duh!), sauteed onions and the most amazing gluten, dairy and meat free sausage patty you will ever sink your teeth into.  I forget the name, but my husband scored them for me when I was sick.  The bit of color on the side is a sweet potato hash (with onion...I cannot eat a thing without onion).

This is my fave veggie scramble.  I was inspired by "Vegan With a Vengeance" but made it my own.  Basically onions, garlic, broccoli and tofu sauteed in a smidge of olive oil and doused with tumeric, cumin and curry.  The toast is a fave jalapeno rye from Fresh and Easy smothered in Earth Balance.

Aloha!

Ah, the first post...

I've been a vegetarian for a smidge over a year now.  The transition was shockingly easy.  I had planned on taking it slow and giving up beef then chicken and so on.  But education is a bitch.  After flipping through "Diet for a New America" while waiting for my chiropractor, I was done.  I stopped off at Borders for my own copy and tore through it in a couple of days.

The transition to veganism has not been quite so easy.  Thanks to "Skinny Bitch" I can't eat ice cream or cheese (the two mainstays of my previous life) without thinking of puss.  Appetizing! Thanks to my Blackberry I can google most ingredients while trolling the supermarket aisles for a treat, but most of the time I fear that without a degree in molecular biology I will continually fall short.

Luckily I live in Los Angeles and there is no shortage of vegan restaurants.  I even had a huge slice of vegan pizza today covered in artichokes, onions and black olives.  Bliss :)

Basically this blog is my journey from vegetarian to full blown, card carrying vegan.  Now if someone will just tell me where I can apply for my card...
